| Bovine collagen Bovine collagen dermal fillers contain 95% type I bovine collagen and 5% type III bovine collagen. Because bovine collagen protein is different from human collagen, an allergic reactions have been reported. The incidence of an allergic reaction is reportedly at 3%. Therefore, 2 skin tests must be performed prior to treatment. The first test should be performed at least 6 weeks prior to treatment, followed by a second test 4 weeks later. At least 2 weeks should elapse after the second skin test before treatment can ensue. This process is repeated before each injection cycle. |
