What is Sub-Clinical Hypothyroid?

Sub-Clinical Hypothyroid (SCH) represents mild thyroid failure
and is a clinically important disorder that has adverse clinical
consequences and that should be treated in most, if not all,
cases.

The academic position on SCH is that SCH is not defined by TSH,
T4, T3, or anti-thyroid antibodies since these values are the
subject of debate and controversy.   SCH is defined by clinical
findings consistent with a low functioning thyroid gland.

SCH is also known as Euthyroid Sick Syndrome.  Many individuals
are screened with a yearly TSH which may be "NORMAL" and yet
exhibit symptoms of SCH.

Many individuals when treated by their physicians with
prescription thyroid medications respond favorably - see
